127 more days...

Cruising with Cyn
Collection of useless information circuitous to the OPERATION: Poisson Rouge Adventure.
This next 6 week installment of Cruising with Cyn, we will be exploring local cuisine from the regions we will be visiting. Ken and I will be preparing a traditional meal from Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Florence, Nice and Toulon. We will be posting the receipe and our review.

I suggest we all try get in the spirit of this installment one way or another (feel free to make suggestions). Here are some ideas you may want to try:

- Cook along with Ken and I; after all if we can do it anyone can. 
- Buy a prepared meal that looks like something you would get in Europe (good, bad or daring). We go to a grocery store called Kings and they always have something very Italian or very French they are offering.
- Go to a French or Itailan restaraunt.  Mom, I don't think The Olive Garden qualifies though.
- Have a drink (recommended wine suggestions will be included) and get in the spirit of things.





Next week we'll be exploring the Wonderful World of Tapas, which are quite popular in Spain. All cooking to occur on deck 13 and and enjoyed on deck 14.

  3. Karen, Mike and Ken's "Nana" had made a firehouse dish called "Spanish Meal". You kids may remember Nana and Pop-Pop calling it "SLUM GULLIAN" (sp?). We still have the recipe and we will have to again give it a try. Brings back memories.

  4. HISTORY OF SLUMGULLION LATER CALLED MULLIGAN the history of slumgullion seems to be that it came from the slums of england before the turn of the century. There was no recipe recorded because back then very few new how to read or write. It was handed down to the kids by showing them how to make it. There was no basic recipe , they just used what they could find or had there was not much meat so if they had some rats or mice or sparrows or pigions what ever they used it. If they lived buy a slaughter house you can guess what they used. They would put the meat in the water and added onion and salt to kill the odor of the meat cooking , then they added some veg's and thickened it with flour when it was thick they would serve it over potatoes or buy it self....

    ...bet it goes nicely with a side of cockscombs...yummy!

    ...but I do remember Slumgullion as a kid...bacon, noodles, onion, ground beef, pepper, tomato sauce, all tossed together...never tried it with rats, mice or sparrows though...*gag*

    Remember picking out the bacon-nodules? Man, that was body-building food, as Pop-pop likes to say.

  7. In order to get in the spirit, as Cindy proposed, I invited Mo to make believe we were both on deck 13. She said no. It was just like being there!!! I cannot wait!
